Nine authors team up in their new book, “A Log Cabin Christmas” published by Barbour Publishing Inc. to give us nine Historical Romances during American Pioneer Christmases.

Margaret Brownley provides the first story, “Snow Angel” where a blizzard forces the teacher, sheriff, and 3 school kids to spend Christmas Eve in the log schoolhouse. They overcome cold, a bear, fear, lack of food, and 5 personal struggles.  Wanda E. Brunstetter gives us “The Christmas Secret” a Log cabin Christmas Eve wedding (also the brides 20th birthday) plans end due to secret history recorded in an aunt’s diary. Bride runs to hide the shame.  Kelly Eileen Hake provides “Christmas Traps And Trimmings” when a London heiress and nurse arrive at a KY mountain trapper’s shack unannounced, the relationship is off to as shaky a start.

Liz Johnson  gives us “A Star In The Night” A tale where a southern gal and gramps nurse a wounded Civil War soldier–this one a Yank.   Jane Kirkpatrick provides “The Courting Quilt” Both farmer and a salesman are eager to “partner” with a widow selling thread.  Liz Tolsma tells us “Under His Wings”
Will a tragedy force an unwanted marriage for an orphan lumber camp gal? Will matrimony cancel seminary for lumberjack Preacher Man? Unusual Christmas gifts will decide all.  Michelle Ule gives us “The Dogtrot Christmas” It’s homesteading in Texas and families struggle with death. What will a TEX-MEX Christmas look like?   Debra Ullrick weaves “A Grand County Christmas” where an Irish lass meets Austrian widower in rocky Mountain snow.  But the bliss turns to Christmas Eve mystery–secrets–& fraud.   Erica Vetsch tells “Christmas Service” Called to be a preacher’s wife, Beth scorns all other men, including a deacon blacksmith, of all things. Todd accepts the rebuke as challenge. Will a Christmas Eve pageant disaster enlighten any or all?

“A Log Cabin Christmas” is great fun to read.  Each story is set in different states so each story has a different feel to it.  This is a book where you wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, make yourself comfortable in your favorite chair and have warm cider to drink as you savor each story.  All the stories are so well written and the romance is perfect, tender not overboard or forced.  Leave this book on your shelf so that next year you can re-visit it.

Kathy Herman in her new book, “Dangerous Mercy” Book Two in the Secrets of Roux River Bayou series published by David C. Cook takes us back to the town of Les Barbes in Louisiana.

From the Back Cover: When eighty-five-year-old Adele Woodmore moves to Les Barbes to be near the Broussards—and her namesake, their daughter—she wants nothing more than a comfortable, quiet life. Employing men from Father Vince’s halfway house for the homeless to do odd jobs and landscaping, she delights in the casual conversation she has with them, the fledgling friendships, and the idea that she is helping them get back on their feet.

A series of murders in Les Barbes has cast a pall over the town and, in fact, one of Adele’s handymen becomes a person of interest to the police. But Adele cares for these young men, she knows them, and continues to show them kindness in spite of her friends’ concern. And then one day a murderer walks through Adele’s defenses, sits down at her kitchen table … and they begin to talk …

Get ready for a page-turning thriller.  Set aside the chores, order take out for dinner, make yourself comfortable because once you get started reading “Dangerous Mercy” you are not going to want to stop until the pages run out–and even then.  Kathy Herman has delivered a winner that will chill you as you follow the life of Adele Woodmore.  ”Dangerous Mercy” is a lot like an Alfred Hitchcock thriller as the story wraps itself around your nerves and just begins to squeeze and squeeze.  Ms. Herman has done a great job in giving us a heroine that is eighty-six years old.  I enjoyed this book a lot and am looking forward to the next one.

AND NOW…THE FIRST DEVOTION:

75 Candles

Have you taken an inventory of what’s important in your life? Birthdays are a great time to reflect and look forward. Imagine you were blowing out 75 candles on your birthday cake. What would you want to have accomplished by then?

Before Bill and I were married, I never would have imagined the Lord would use my husband and me so dramatically. God guided us to start Campus Crusade for Christ, an organization that has become a worldwide ministry with more than half a million workers.

Our goal from the beginning was to put God first in our lives and do all we planned for His honor and glory.

So, dear one, let me ask: Have you let God be the center of your life goals? Are you willing to let Him use you? Ask God today to take over every area of what you do. He will do a marvelous work with your life too.

Whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him (2 Corinthians 5:9).

This I Believe

You can never go wrong putting
God first in everything.
