Jerry B. Jenkins in his new book “
The Betrayal” Book Two in the Precinct 11 series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to Chicago early 2011.
From the back cover: Detective Boone Drake has just pulled off the most massive sting in Chicago history, bringing down the heads of not only the biggest street gangs in the city but also the old crime syndicate. The story is the biggest in decades, and the Chicago Police Department must protect the key witness at all costs. Yet despite top secret plans to transfer the witness ahead of his testimony before the grand jury, an attempt is made on his life.
It soon becomes apparent that someone inside the Chicago PD leaked information to the shooter. As evidence mounts and suspicion points too close to home, Boone doesn’t know whom he can trust. An investigation reveals that the turncoat might be someone very close to him, even someone he loves—or is the guilty party just trying to cover up corruption at the highest level of the police department? Trusting the wrong person could prove fatal.
Who can you trust? And when you do trust someone and they break that trust is that the ultimate betrayal? After getting shot Boone Drake needs to find out who arranged for him and his star witness to be killed. He needs to find out why they are trying to frame his girlfriend for something she didn’t do, or, perhaps, she did. In “The Betrayal” Jerry B. Jenkins gives us a story that is not only a page-flipping thriller but the major theme is trust. We, like Boone, have no idea of whom to trust until it all becomes clear at the end. Like Boone our faith is tested as he painfully races against time to protect his witness, clear his name, and identify the culprit. “The Betrayal” is a great read with Mr. Jenkins making us flip the pages as fast as we can because we want to know what happens with Boone and see if he can stand all the tests God puts him through. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Mr. Jenkins is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as he tightens the suspense. I am looking forward to book three in this series.

Book Review: “Lion of Babylon” by Davis Bunn

I had the privilege of interviewing Davis Bunn, on our radio show “Kingdom Highlights” for his new book, “
Lion of Babylon” Book One in Marc Royce series published by Bethany House.
From the back cover: Marc Royce worked for the State Department on a variety of clandestine assignments — that is, until personal issues led to his dismissal.
When Alex Baird goes missing in war-torn Baghdad, State comes calling again. Alex is an intelligence agent – and a close friend of Royce. Three others have also dropped out of sight — a nurse, an aid worker, a wealthy young Iraqi. Are these cases linked? Rumours circulate about a kidnapping conspiracy, yet both American and local officials refuse to pursue it.
Blocked at every turn, Royce eventually unearths a trail of secret encounters between sworn enemies. What he discovers could transform the course of rivalry and reconciliation between the Mideast. As the human and political drama escalates, can one man summon the courage to make a difference?
Marc Royce hits the ground running in “Lion of Babylon”. Get ready for an exciting thrill ride as this book is a thriller, which simply means that everyone’s lives are in danger from practically page one. Marc Royce is sent to the Middle East to find some missing Americans and if there is any conspiracy behind their disappearances. While there he meets Sameh el-Jacobi, who is also hunting for missing Iraqis. Together these two men encounter villains, treachery and life-threatening situations that will keep you flipping the pages as fast as you can read. The theme is the value of human life as, it seems, that only a handful value individuals enough to spend their time and resources to go looking for them once they have gone missing. The lead characters are terrific and we root for them as we live through their various heart-throbbing encounters. Davis Bunn does a truly remarkable job in this book while exciting us with this story that everyone will enjoy.

Book Review: “Thunder of Heaven” by Tim LaHaye & Craig Parshall
December 27, 2011 at 8:47 am | Posted in Books | Leave a commentTags: Book Review, Christian Fiction, Romance Fiction, Thriller
I had the privilege of interviewing Craig Parshall, on our radio show “Kingdom Highlights” for his new book, “
Thunder of Heaven” Book Two in The End series published by Zondervan.
From the inside jacket flap: Joshua Jordan’s reputation is on the line when his controversial RTS system fails to protect Flight 199 as it takes off from Chicago and is shot down by a terrorist missile. The government is taking no chances and starts an investigation of Joshua’s entire defense program. Unfortunately, the Israelis, longtime allies of the United States, are desperate for the technology. When Joshua flies to the Middle East to assure them of the RTS reliability, he is captured by Iranians who want the secret for the defense tool for their own use.
With Joshua out of the country, Abigail Jordan is left in charge of the Roundtable and sets out to defend her husband to the media and to the commission set up to investigate RTS. But America is under attack–a bombing in the Mall of America and rumors of even more potential atrocities have this covert team desperate to find additional bombs before they are set off.
As man vs. man and nation vs. nation come together in an epic battle, nature takes over and makes the final blow. And as world events begin setting the stage for the “end of days” foretold in Revelation, Joshua Jordan must weigh the personal price he must pay to save the nation he loves.
Joshua Jordan is back in “Thunder of Heaven” and this book is even more of a thriller than the first book. Unlike a previous series by Dr. LaHaye this series is set not to far from where we are today. Dr. LaHaye is using Bible prophecy to show how close we are to what the Bible tells us will happen.
Craig Parshall, known for his legal fiction, has written a page turning, heart-thumping thriller with careful attention to the state of the world right now and how the Bible says we will turn out. Many of the “things” that are mentioned in the book are in place right now and in use, even though most of us are not aware of them. Dr. LaHaye and Craig Parshall have one agenda in mind and that is the salvation of many through this work of fiction. Their zeal is that many will have their eyes open to the state of our world and see that much of where we are currently and where we are poised to go the Bible has already warned us of and that we would understand our need for a savior. They do a truly remarkable job in this book while exciting us with this story that everyone will enjoy.
When I asked where we would be headed in the next book I was told that he would not tell me but that this series is envisioned as a trilogy with the next one due out next year. I can hardly wait!!!
