Rick Johnson in his new book, “A Man In The Making book coverA Man In The Making” published by Revell gives us Strategies to Help Your Son Succeed in Life.

From the back cover:  How does a boy become a man of character?

As your son grows toward manhood, you can instill in him the values and character traits he will need to succeed.  Highlighting famous Christian men throughout history and the character trait that made each an outstanding model of manhood, parenting expert Rick Johnson gives you strategies to help mold your sons into honorable men. Johnson describes men such as:

  • Martin Luther King Jr.
  • George Washington
  • John Wooden
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Jedediah Smith
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Leonardo da Vinci
  • and more

With the understanding gleaned from this insightful book, you can positively influence your son’s life–in a way that will last him a lifetime.

Our fathers did a great job with us and we are both proud of them and thankful to them for what they have accomplished.  If they had the strategies outlined in this book perhaps they could have done an even better job with us?  When we don’t have a plan-a recipe-then the boy we are raising may turn out well, as planned, or he may fall a little short of the mark.  Mr. Johnson believes in a plan for success in raising our boys.  He clearly outlines this plan by looking at the lives of twelve me from politics, religious leaders, artists and The Bible.  It is time fathers had a user guide to help them raise their sons.  Mr. Johnson has given us a book that can be referred to over and over again.  “A Man In The Making” is a book for all men to help raise their boys to manhood.  This is a book to give to any man who has a son or potentially will have a son.  Everyone will benefit from the results.

Book Review: “Memory’s Door” by James L. Rubart

James L. Rubart in his new book, “Memorys Door book coverMemory’s Door” Book Two in the Well Spring series published by Thomas Nelson gives us another adventure with the four members of Warriors Riding.

From the back cover:  The prophecy brought them together. But the Wolf has risen, and now their greatest battle begins.

The four members of Warriors Riding have learned to wage war in the supernatural, to send their spirits inside people’s souls, to battle demonic forces, and to bring deep healing to those around them.

But their leader Reece is struggling with the loss of his sight. Brandon is being stalked at his concerts by a man in the shadows. Dana’s career is threatening to bury her. And Marcus questions his sanity as he seems to be slipping in and out of alternate realities.

And now the second part of the prophecy has come true. The Wolf is hunting them and has set his trap. He circles, feeding on his supernatural hate of all they stand for. And he won’t stop until he brings utter destruction to their bodies . . . and their souls.

This means war!  The battle is on!  The battle for souls is the hardest and most vicious ever imagined and James L. Rubart has given us a story that shows just how hard and vicious it is.  Mr. Rubart gives us the warriors, those that fight for men’s souls.  They are aided by the angelic host.  Opposed to them, of course, are the demonic host.  The reason why they are after the warriors is that if you take out those that do the fighting then the ones they are fighting for are lost and the demons win.  Let us define “regret” as those things that are holding us prisoners to decisions and actions of the past.  Each one of the four Warriors Riding has an issue with regret and each one of them is individually attacked from a demon because of that regret.  These “regrets” keep us from enjoying the life that God has planned for us.  Before the Warriors Riding can really fulfill their purpose they need God to heal them of these regrets.  “Memory’s Door” is a very exciting book.  One that will keep you flipping pages trying to find out what will happen next just as fast as you can read and flip.  Everything is Biblical and Mr. Rubart is at the top of his game with his writing.  “Memory’s Door” will keep you asking questions, once you get the answer to one question it leads you to another and then another.  This is an adrenaline laced adventure story. The characters are extraordinary and well written and you get involved with every one of them.  This is a just plain fun, exciting story that entertains as well as makes us think. Mr. Rubart has batted in a winner and I recommend this book highly.  I am so looking forward to book three in this series.

Book Review: “Death By Living” By N. D. Wilson

N. D.Wilson in his new book , “Death By Living book coverDeath By Living” published by Thomas Nelson shows us Life Is Meant to Be Spent.

From the back cover:   A poetic portrait of faith, futility, and the joy of this mortal life.

In this astoundingly unique book, bestselling author N.D. Wilson reminds each of us that to truly live we must recognize that we are dying. Every second we create more of our past—more decisions, more breathing, more love and more loathing, all of it slides by into the gone as we race to grab at more moments, at more memories made and already fading.

We are all authors, creators of our own pasts, of the books that will be our lives. We stare at the future or obsess about the present, but only the past has been set in stone, and we are the ones setting it. When we race across the wet concrete of time without purpose, without goals, without laughter and love and sacrifice, then we fail in our mortal moment. We race toward our inevitable ends without artistry and without beauty.

All of us must pause and breathe. See the past, see your life as the fruit of providence and thousands of personal narratives. What led to you? You did not choose where to set your feet in time. You choose where to set them next.

Then, we must see the future, not just to stare into the fog of distant years but to see the crystal choices as they race toward us in this sharp foreground we call the present. We stand in the now.  God says create. Live. Choose. Shape the past. Etch your life in stone, and what you make will be forever.

The Biography Channel has the tag live, “Every Life Tells A Story”.  We each have a beginning, our birth date, and we each have an ending, the day we die.  In between these two dates on our tombstone is a dash and that is where our story lies.  Mr. Wilson explores the stories that led up to us, our grandparents and parents, and then helps us open our eyes to consciously focus on the chapters that we will create after them in our lives.  “Death By Living” is an eye-opening experience that if taken and used will greatly open and enrich your life.  I think you will want to give this book to family and friends so that they can have a new perspective also.  They will always remember your gift and thank you for it.  I recommend this book highly!
