Julie Lessman in her new book, “Surprised by Love book coverSurprised by Love” Book Three in The Heart Of San Francisco series published by Revell takes us into the life of Megan McClare in 1904.

From the back cover:  She can turn the head of the man who spurned her–but can she turn his heart?

When Megan McClare left San Francisco to study in Paris, no one would accuse her of being poised and pretty. But on the other side of the Atlantic, this wallflower blossomed into a beauty with big dreams. When she returns to California and accepts an internship at the district attorney’s office, she’s thrilled that her life is taking shape. But the exciting opportunity quickly loses its glow when she discovers she’ll be working alongside Devin Caldwell, who mercilessly mocked her at school–and with whom she was hopelessly enamored.

Bram Hughes is the best friend to whom Megan has always turned for support and advice. But when she seeks his counsel about working with Devin Caldwell, Bram’s vision is clouded by his sudden unwelcome attraction to a girl he had always thought of as a little sister. He advises forgiveness, but can he forgive himself for pushing the woman he loves into the arms of another man?

Author Julie Lessman draws a romantic triangle that will touch your heart in this glittering Gilded Age tale of transforming love.

I have to give Ms. Lessman a lot of credit she knows how to write about family.  And her characters are so wonderfully written you forget this is a work of fiction and become so absorbed in their lives you forget to put the book down and wind up losing sleep.  However that is a small price to pay for the quality of story that Ms. Lessman has provided us.  In 1904 Megan returns from Paris an entirely different person than when she left, well at least on the  outside. Now she wants a career and to do so has to work with a man she loved but who tormented her. The man who always loved her still loves her and wants to win her back. A love triangle now exists and Megan is caught right in the middle of it. Megan and Bram are wonderful characters that live and breathe on the pages. When they are happy we are happy, when they are sad we cry along with them.  We want them to succeed at everything they do especially in the romance as they play out the themes of trust, forgiveness, hope and courage.  Ms. Lessman does a wonderful job of transporting us back to a time and place that we will, sadly, never experience again so savor the time spent in these pages. “Surprised by Love” is an interesting story filled with lots of excitement and romance as well as history.
