“Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. ” (Luke 1:11 NKJV)

We are counting the days until Christmas and we here at Word of Encouragement would like to spend this time together reviewing the prophecies and scriptures concerning the birthday of our King and seeing how they might apply to us today and seeing what encouragement we can receive from them.

Zacharias is ministering before the altar of incense just feet away from the veil that separates man from God and an angel appears before him.  As if the appearance isn’t enough this angel introduces himself and delivers a message personally for Zacharias. Many years ago there was a delivery system called a singing telegram where you could send a message and the telegraph operator would dispatch a messenger who would go to the house and sing your message to the appropriate person that you sent your message to. This angel, Gabriel, is delivering a personal message for Zacharias directly from God, “And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings” (Luke 1:19 NKJV).

Gabriel, whose name means “Champion of God”, is very busy during this season. He first delivers the message to Zacharias, and then six months later he delivers his next message to Mary. “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David.  The virgin’s name was Mary” (Luke 1:26-27 NKJV). After that he delivers a message to Joseph, Mary’s betrothed husband, “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20 NKJV).

Then Gabriel takes a little rest as he waits for his messages to come to fulfillment then, one night, when all is completed as he said, Gabriel appears to a group of shepherds in a field with a message that had never been given before and he gives what he has to say all the fanfare that it deserves, “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (Luke 2:8-10 NKJV). This message from Gabriel is so exciting that a whole host of his brethren join in, “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:13-14 NKJV)!

Child of God – There are angels all around us! God has His angels to guard us and protect us as we go about our day. And when God really wants us to hear a very special message then He will send His angelic messenger to us to verbally deliver what He has to say. We are very special people to God and God treats us as royalty. After all, we are children of the Most High God, joint heirs with Jesus! Who else are the angels going to talk to?

Our prayer:
Lord, thank you for sending angels to minister to those that are heirs of salvation. I have heard of so many times that they have helped Christians around the world, in situations that were impossible to get out of. And I ask you today to send your angels around me every day to keep me out of trouble and danger. Thank you Lord, for taking care of me with such dedication and love. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you
