“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. ”  (Matthew 1:18 NKJV)

We are counting the days until Christmas and we here at Word of Encouragement would like to spend this time together reviewing the prophecies and scriptures concerning the birthday of our King and seeing how they might apply to us today and seeing what encouragement we can receive from them.

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her” (Luke 1:26-38 NKJV).

Isaiah told us the prophecy, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14 NKJV). Why did it have to be a virgin who gave birth? Because we all are born with the stain of sin passed down from Adam. God had this plan before Adam & Eve sinned. God told Satan, ” And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed” (Genesis 3:15 NKJV). Since when does a woman have seed? Women have eggs, men have seed but in the case of Mary God did a miracle that has never and will never be duplicated. It doesn’t matter what movies or certain newspapers say it is impossible with humans that a virgin can become pregnant and reproduce. What would she be reproducing? Paul confirms this, “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law” (Galatians 4:4 NKJV). This way Jesus can be the High Priest who meets our needs, “Such a high priest meets our need–one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens” (Hebrews 7:26 NIV).

Child of God – Our Lord knows what He is doing. There is never a time or an occasion where God slaps His forehead and says, “Oops, I didn’t expect that”. God is always in control and has a plan, not a back-up plan, but a plan. Ask God what His plan is for your life and then say like Mary “May it be to me as you have said”.

Our prayer:
Lord, tell me your plans for my life. I want to be certain to follow your ways for me, as I want to please you and I know that your ways are always the best. Mold me into what you have planned for me to be and help me not to pursue things outside of your perfect will. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you
