“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ” (Luke 2:38 NKJV))

We are counting the days until Christmas and we here at Word of Encouragement would like to spend this time together reviewing the prophecies and scriptures concerning the birthday of our King and seeing how they might apply to us today and seeing what encouragement we can receive from them.

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her” (Luke 2:26-38 NKJV)).

Now ask yourself would you have reacted as well as Mary? All of a sudden an angel appears to her announces that she is going to get pregnant and the child that she will carry will be the Son of God and all she asks, innocently enough, is how her pregnancy is going to happen without the help of a man? She didn’t get the least bit excited that an angel was standing before her or that she was highly blessed among women, all she wanted to know was how this pregnancy was going to happen! So Gabriel explained that The Holy Spirit was going to do all the work and that explanation was more than sufficient for her for all she says is “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 2:38 NKJV)). Ever wonder when Mary got
pregnant? I think it was right at that moment when she agreed with the word of God given by Gabriel. The Holy Spirit came upon Mary and the pregnancy began immediately when she was in agreement with the word of God.

Child of God – We need to agree with the word of God just like Mary, quickly and without hesitation. When we receive a direct word from God, from our reading, from a preaching we need to feed that into our spirit and say yes, this is the word of God and let it be accordingly. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV). When God speaks what He says is living and powerful and He can do exactly what He says! That is why God said it, to perform it, “I will say the word and perform it,” says the Lord GOD”(Ezekiel 12:25 NKJV). What God says God will do, let us believe Him for it!

Our prayer:
Lord, thank you for all the words you have spoken into my life. I definitely accept and desire those things you have said. May I always have a heart that agrees with your Word and not with the circumstances around me. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you
