“Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher”. (Luke 2:36 NKJV)

We are counting the days until Christmas and we here at Word of Encouragement would like to spend this time together reviewing the prophecies and scriptures concerning the birthday of our King and seeing how they might apply to us today and seeing what encouragement we can receive from them.

“Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the LORD”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons” (Luke 2:22-24 NKJV). Then immediately after Simeon comes the account of Anna, “Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem” (Luke 2:36-38 NKJV).

Anna was a woman of God, a prophetess just like Deborah, one of the Judges of Israel. For an elderly woman she was consistent in her dedication to the Lord; she never left His presence and was committed to Prayer and Fasting. As a reward for her diligence God granted her a special blessing by pointing out to her that Mary’s baby was the One that she, and all Israel, were waiting for. Like Simeon before her the Holy Spirit led her to the Holy Infant, “Coming up to them at that very moment”. As a child of God there are no coincidences, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way” (Psalm 37:23 NKJV). Anna was given the privilege of beholding the Salvation of Israel. And she knew what honor she had been given and “she gave thanks to God”. Everyone whom Christ is made known have a reason to give thanks to the Lord for so great a favor. Everyday we should remember what we were and from what Jesus took us from and we should give thanks.

Anna didn’t keep this information to herself. She was a prophetess and immediately “spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem”. This is the Good News that Jesus has come to save the world from their sins. Let us go into the entire world and proclaim it boldly.

Child of God – these are the last of the last days. Let us use the time we still have left to fast and pray that the entire world will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus. Peter tells us, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 NKJV). We need to tell others of the “Good News” just as someone once told us. Let us shout it from the rooftops and may all come to salvation.

Our prayer:
Lord, help me to tell others about your second coming as Anna did for your first coming. So others may be waiting for you as well. Lord give me boldness and enough love to do this without any hesitation. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you
