Sophie Hannah in her new book, “Monogram Murders book coverThe Monogram Murders” Book Forty Three in the Hercule Poirot mystery series published by William Morrow gives us a brand new mystery starring Hercule Poirot.

From the back cover: ‘I’m a dead woman, or I shall be soon…’

Hercule Poirot’s quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered.  She is terrified – but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done.

Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a fashionable London Hotel have been murdered, and a cufflink has been placed in each one’s mouth. Could there be a connection with the frightened woman? While Poirot struggles to put together the bizarre pieces of the puzzle, the murderer prepares another hotel bedroom for a fourth victim…

Hercule Poirot is in England on a vacation that he wants no one to know about so that he can rest his “Little gray cells”. However Poirot is one man who trouble seems to seek out. A woman tells him not to seek out her murderer and then runs away. Later on he finds out that three persons were murdered at a fancy hotel. Once he goes to the hotel it seems that he solves the three murders practically immediately. However if that was the case then this would not be a Hercule Poirot story and we would throw the book out. Good news Sophie Hannah has captured the essence of Hercule Poirot and permeated him onto the pages. Once he gets going he captures your attention and you could scream as he tries to figure out just what happened and why. The plot will keep you going. Once a question is answered two more beg to be asked. The same information is given to us multiple times only to be drawn to multiple conclusions. It is nice to have Hercule Poirot back. Ms. Hannah has provided us with a very clever exciting book and I look forward to more Poirot stories from her.
