“Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.” (John 18:28 NIV)

Have you ever been up early in the morning, sometime around dawn? It is very quiet, very few cars are on the streets, there is no one to be seen walking around and even the birds are quiet. There is a serene quality early in the morning. If you want to get somewhere without rushing and stress get up early and go. If you want to get a lot done at the office or even around the house get up early and get to work, you’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Caiaphas, the high priest, wanted to get Jesus to the Roman governor, Pilate, with the least  amount of trouble so he sent Jesus early in the morning to him. All the people who were awake at that time had been with Caiaphas the whole night and wanted Jesus to die. If you don’t want others to know what you are doing, do it early in the morning. Even the early risers will not know or suspect what you are up to and your activities will be kept secret. That is what Caiaphas accomplished.  Before nine in the morning Jesus had been to Pilate twice, once before Herod, had received a scourging of 39 lashes with the whip, had been beaten by the guards, sentenced to die by crucifixion, walked to Golgotha and was already hanging on the cross. This is what can be accomplished early in the morning.

But not everything that happens early in the morning can be considered bad, Jesus rose early in the morning, “When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons” (Mark 16:9 NIV). Jesus always was an early riser, “and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple” (Luke 21:38 NIV), so it no surprise to us that He arose early from the tomb.

Child of God – 86 times in 85 verses the word early is used and there is always activity involved. In all things Jesus is our example, what He does we should do and there is great emphasis placed on rising early.  “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me” (Proverbs 8:17 KJV), “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You” (Psalm 63:1 NKJV), “Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14 NKJV)!

Our prayer:
Lord, help me to find the strength and discipline to rise up early to have my private time with you. It is good to be with you at any time, but it is even better early in the morning. Thank you for all the things that you have done for me. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
