Media4Kids International in their new movie, “joseph movie posterJOSEPH: Beloved Son, Rejected Slave, Exalted Ruler” distributed via Vision Video gives us a 90-minute animated feature film recounting the story of Joseph.

Based on the powerful Old Testament story, the 90-minute animated feature film from the makers of Torchlighters and Jesus: He Lived Among Us recounts the story of Joseph, the favored son sold into slavery by his jealous brothers only to become second in command of Egypt.

Joseph is a young dreamer, spoiled by his father and so resented by his brothers that they secretly sell him to a slave trader. Eventually landing in the dungeons of Egypt, the young man who lacked nothing suddenly finds himself alone, forgotten, and overwhelmed with despair. Yet it is in this deep prison that Joseph begins to change, and in his humility he cries out to God.

As the years pass, his growing faith and gift for interpreting dreams bring him to the attention of the Pharaoh, who exalts the young man to a prominent position. Having learned humble obedience to God, Joseph becomes instrumental not only in saving Egypt but the brothers who initially betrayed him. Joseph is a moving story that powerfully demonstrates God’s hand in all things, big and small.

Gordon Severance was the Executive Producer on this film and was the genius that envisioned and created it. Let me start out by saying that this movie is practically flawless. The animation is perfect. The people actually walk like people and the backgrounds are just dazzling. It is a thing of beauty to behold.

Then there is the directing by Robert Fernandez. He does a masterful job of moving the story along without any pauses or lags, keeps us totally interested in everything that is going on and tells the story exactly.

Then there is the Biblical story of Joseph. I do not know who wrote this screenplay but whoever this person is did a spectacular job and deserves much credit. It is not just the story it is all the action behind the story that is played out so well. With every thing that happens to Joseph we see him changing and being molded by God until he becomes second-in-command of Egypt. We see him splintered from his family and then restored back to them at the end and oh what a triumph that is.

Everyone should see this movie! Families should sit down together with their bowl of popcorn and/or chips and dip, watch this movie, and then discuss it when it is over. I recommend this movie highly!

Gordon Severance always wanted to make an animated Joseph movie for kids. He began the project, serving as Executive Producer of the film before his death in 2013. Determined to see his dream through to completion, his widow, Diana Severance, finished the movie.

“I was reading in Matthew Henry’s commentary and at one point he commented that widows can serve their husbands by completing work they had left behind,” says Diana Severance.
