“Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.” (Hebrews 12:10)

For the benefit of our international readers Today we celebrate Father’s Day in the United States. Father’s Day is a day of commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a day to not only honor your father, but all men who have acted as a father figure in your life – whether as Stepfathers, Adoptive Fathers, Foster Fathers, Grandfathers, or “Big Brothers.”

God has given us a precious gift in our fathers and on this day we reflect on all the good that they have done for us. First, they brought us into the world. Mothers bear and birth us but fathers bring about conception. Our hearing has a lot to do with our fathers. Mothers never take you and throw you in the air or lift you off the floor like a rocket blast off, yet without these actions the inner ear would not properly develop and our hearing and sense of balance would be deficient. Fathers take us to sports events, teach us how to play and when they don’t know the game, take the time to learn it so that they can teach it properly.

Fathers, more than mothers, teach us discipline. And they teach us discipline in a very painful manner. No one enjoys a spanking, least of all the father, but when it is called for someone has to do it and the father is elected for this assignment. We respect our fathers for the discipline that we have received and are better men and women because of it, “Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it” (Hebrews 12:9 NIV).

Child of God – Our Fathers are a visual representation of God, the Father. What we think of the man is how we view God. If we have loved the man then we freely love God, if the man has been lacking in some area then we see God lacking in the same area. God loves us with a father’s heart and for all the fathers, soon-to-be fathers and potential fathers out there, a very happy father’s day; may God richly bless you as you help grow your children.

Our prayer:
Father, reveal your father’s love to me and all your children. Help us to erase the bad image of a father that we possibly have, and replace it with yours. Let us taste a little of that father’s love that compelled you to create the world and its inhabitants. Let us share that loving relationship that you have with your Son our Lord, as we are your children as well. And Happy Father’s Day my beloved Father. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
