Patricia Cornwell in her new book, “Flesh and Blood book coverFlesh and Blood” Book Twenty-Two in the Kay Scarpetta series published by William Morrow gives us another adventure with Kay Scarpetta.

From the back cover:  In #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Cornwell’s next enthralling thriller starring Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a serial sniper strikes chillingly close to home

Dr. Kay Scarpetta is about to head to Miami for a vacation when she notices seven pennies on a wall behind their home. Is this a kids’ game? If so, why are all of the coins dated 1981 and so shiny they could be newly minted? Then she learns there’s been a homicide five minutes away. A high school teacher was shot with uncanny precision as he unloaded groceries from his car. Yet no one heard or saw a thing.

Soon more victims surface. The shots seem impossible to achieve, yet they are so perfect they cause death in an instant. There is no pattern to indicate where the killer will strike next. First it was New Jersey, then Massachusetts, and then the murky depths off the coast. There she comes face to face with shocking news that implicates her niece, Lucy—Scarpetta’s own flesh and blood.

You might think that after twenty-one previous books the Kay Scarpetta series might be losing a little oomph. I am here to tell you that if you are thinking this then please wipe that thought out of your mind entirely. Not only does she still have her own momentum this particular installment has a wallop all of its own. There is a serial killer with no discernible pattern. And then Kay finds out that Lucy might be involved in the whole mess, hence the title. Danger, Mayhem, Thrills and murder all figure into this highly complicated plot. Kay Scarpetta and Lucy as well as all the others are fascinating characters that seem very real and there is a killer that seems impossible to discover.  “Flesh and Blood” is loaded with twists and turns and red herrings that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. Ms. Cornwell has provided us with a fairly exciting book.

  1. Sounds like the series is continuing strong! I admit I haven’t checked in the series recently, having read all of the early books, so this looks like a good place to get started again with it!
