Sharlene MacLaren in her new book, “Gift of Grace book coverGift of Grace” Book Three in the Tennessee Dreams series published by Whitaker House takes us into the life of Grace Fontaine.

From the back cover:  It was a leap of faith for Grace Fontaine to bid farewell to her beloved fiance, Jess Travis, and send him on a four-month stint on the transatlantic luxury liner The Lone Star. But the trip from Boston to London and back again would increase his salary fivefold and would bring the couple that much closer to realizing their dream of marrying and starting a family. When Grace learns that the ship was captured by pirates, her hope deflates–and it eviscerates entirely at the news that the pirate ship was destroyed, with no survivors reported.

Two years later, Grace receives word from a doctor in Paris, Tennessee, that her wealthy great-aunt, Iris Brockwell, is on her deathbed and requires round-the-clock care. Grace volunteers, figuring there is nothing left for her in Boston. It isn’t long after her arrival in Paris that she meets a charming, driven lawyer named Conrad Hall, who wastes no time sweeping her off her feet and soon proposes marriage. Given his promises to love, protect, and care for her and her great-aunt, how can Grace refuse?

Weeks before the wedding, an unexpected guest shows up and threatens to throw a wrench in the plans. Will Grace go through with her marriage to Conrad? Or will an unforeseen turn of events change her mind?

There is a lot going on in this book. Grace and Jess are going to be married. Jess has an opportunity to boost his salary but he has to take a transatlantic trip. The ship is plundered by pirates and sunk no one is reported alive. What do you do now? Grace moves on in life. Grace moves to Paris, TN to comfort her sick Aunt Iris. That is where she meets Conrad. From here the story takes on a life of its own. Here is the question:  while most of the events that occur are surprises to Grace were any of them a surprise to God? If not then is it possible that He was using these events to help Grace to grow and flourish? And then on top of everything there is the romance–not just any kind of romance but a real, gentle romance that only springs from God.  Ms. MacLaren does an outstanding job with all the characters especially Grace and Jess and we really get behind them to succeed. I am so looking forward to the next book from this highly talented author.
