“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15 NKJV)

We are counting the days until Christmas and we here at Word of Encouragement would like to spend this time together reviewing the prophecies and scriptures concerning the birthday of our King and seeing how they might apply to us today and seeing what encouragement we can receive from them.

When we want to give a gift at Christmas we make a list of people that we want to give gifts to then, once we have the list, we write the gift that we would like to give them next to it. Once we have our Christmas gift list completed it’s off to the stores. Once everything is back home we spend hours wrapping our gifts just so, there is a special way to wrap, tuck here, fold there, tape here, tuck and fold again and then the gift is wrapped and there are no bumps and it is seamless. We used the best and most colorful wrapping paper we could find, certainly not a brown paper bag or something colorless and when we were finished we put a bow on it with a colorful little card identifying the who and the from. We do all this for the joy that we receive when we see the smiling face of the person that we bought the gift for as they unwrap their gift.

God is just like us, only better, remember we are created in His image so the good things we do are just a shadow of what He does. So if we like to give gifts then how much greater God likes to give gifts? So one day God gave us His best gift, “So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:6-7 NKJV).

Jesus, our best gift, was wrapped in swaddling clothes. God enjoyed displaying His gift that He sent angels to announce it, “And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12 NKJV).

Child of God – James tells us that, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17 NKJV). God has given to each of us a gift, Paul tells us, “Do not neglect the gift that is in you” (1 Timothy 4:14 NKJV). Paul again tells us, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you ” (2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV). Again Paul tells us, “But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men” (Ephesians 4:7-8 NKJV). Gifts God gives us, gifts not just one but many and diversified gifts, see 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 to see the great gifts that are given. And why does God give us these gifts? For the same reason that we give our gifts to our family and friends, out of love. God loves us! And to prove His great love He gave us His only Son so that He could live and die for us, then rise again to give us eternal life. Praise be to God forever!

Our prayer:
Lord, thank you for the greatest gift of love you have given us, your only Son and His sacrifice so we can be delivered from sin and enter into eternal life in your presence. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you
