At every funeral the preacher will pick up some dirt from the ground and toss it into the open grave and read, “remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return”. Moses records for us the 6th day of creation when man was made in the image of God, “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7 NIV). But Adam ate from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and sin and death entered the world. Now there will come a time in everyone’s life when they will breathe their last breath, the problem is that we think we are immortal and we will continue to live to the next day. We all have our planners and our schedules and our life insurance but most of us never expect to use our policies. James tells us otherwise, “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:13-15 NIV).
God formed us out of the most common element of the planet; so common is this one element that we named the planet after it-Earth. The ground we walk on and plant in and build upon is the very ground we were created from. One day we will return to the ground, “You turn men back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, O sons of men” (Psalm 90:3 NIV).
Child of God – We need to accomplish all that God has for our lives in the short period of time that we have available to ourselves. We need to make God our Number One priority and live our lives for Him and through Him. Remember God has plans for our lives and we need to seek Him to know what He would have us to do with the very life that He gave us as a gift. We also need to remember that God loves us and will quickly forgive us of our sins if we will confess them to Him. “As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more” (Psalm 103:13-16 NIV).
Lord, forgive me for all the times that I don’t put you in first place in my life, even in my day. Help me to focus in you so I can know you better and get to know your heart having a closer relationship with you. I want to know what your plan for my life is. And fulfill it for your glory. Amen.
If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
