From the back cover: The Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were recently voted as the top mystery series of all time, and they have enthralled generations of readers—and writers!
Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger have assembled a stellar group of contemporary authors from a variety of genres and asked them to create new stories inspired by that canon. Readers will find Holmes in times and places previously unimagined, as well as characters who have themselves been affected by the tales of Sherlock Holmes.
The resulting volume is an absolute delight for Holmes fans both new and old, with contributions from Michael Connelly, Jeffery Deaver, Michael Dirda, Harlan Ellison, Denise Hamilton, Nancy Holder, John Lescroart, Sara Paretsky, Michael Sims, and more. The game is afoot—again!
When Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes 129 years do you think he really knew he was creating a legend? Over the years Holmes has been copied and emulated but never, I think, to the success that has been reached with this anthology. There are fourteen stories presented here. Some of these stories are new Holmes and Watson, while some of them are the author’s character in a Holmes type environment. All of them are good, some are better than others, but that is what happens with any anthology. These authors really know Holmes and Watson and how to use all the elements and still make it a mystery thriller. Don’t start this book late at night because you are going to want to finish it before you go to bed. I think it would be fun if Ms. King and Mr. Klinger could assemble another group of contemporary authors and have them create new stories for a new anthology.
