Mark Batterson in his new book, “Chase The Lion” published by Multnomah tells us If Your Dream Doesn’t Scare You, It’s Too Small.
From the back cover: Run “TO” the Roar!
When the image of a man-eating beast travels through the optic nerve and into the visual cortex, the brain sends the body a simple but urgent message: run away! That s what normal people do, but not lion chasers. Rather than seeing a five hundred pound problem, they see an opportunity for God to show up and show His power..
“Chase the Lion” is more than a catch phrase; it s a radically different approach to life. It s only when we stop fearing failure that we can fully seize opportunity by the mane. With grit and gusto, “New York Times” bestselling author Mark Batterson delivers a bold message to everyone with a big dream.
Quit playing it safe and start running” towards” the roar!
This is a wake-up call to stop living as if the purpose was to simply arrive safely at death. Our dreams should scare us. They should be so big that without God they are impossible to achieve. Quit running away from what you re afraid of.
Chase the lion!
Change the world!
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”1 Peter 5:8 The Apostle Peter tells us the devil behaves towards us as if he were a lion. Pastor Batterson applies the verse from 2 Samuel 23:20 that we should take the chase to the lion, that we should defeat it. The devil is like a lion. Peter is comparing the devil to a lion who prowls around. Benaiah takes the chase to the lion and kills it. Now we know how we should behave towards the devil. In twenty-one chapters Pastor Batterson explores how we need to get realigned with the Word of God. Once we vacate our old ways of thinking and acting then we need to be all in on the new ways without carrying over some of the polluted thoughts and actions we currently have. Pastor Batterson challenges us to stretch ourselves using the Word of God and convinces us to get off the bench and in the game. I think that everyone should have a copy of this book and give it as a gift to friends and family so that they can be properly aligned as well. Everyone will be better off for it.

Ace Collins in his new book, “Service Tails” Book Two on the Man’s Best Hero series published by Abingdon Press gives us More Stories of Man’s Best Hero.
From the back cover: Heart-tugging true stories of the courage, faith and loyalty of remarkable service dogs.
Not all heroic dogs wildly toss themselves into lifesaving situations. Some save lives simply by their incredible commitment to duty and service. Some lead the way to independence for people whose disabilities were supposed to limit their lives.
In Service Tails: More Stories of Man’s Best Hero, prolific author Ace Collins introduces us to leaders whose entire lives are wrapped in the banner of service. Their stories are remarkable snapshots of the value of vision and teamwork, as well as devotion to duty and unconditional love and acceptance–stretching the way we see both canine and human potential. Their training was intense, their loyalty unquestioned and each step of the way they constantly adapt to better serve those they lead. These unforgettable dogs are more than heroes; they are models from which we can learn how to love and serve unconditionally.
This book showcases 12 true stories of service dogs. Mr. Collins tells us that this is not a book that spotlights heroic dogs wildly tossing themselves into lifesaving situations. Yes, some of the dogs in this book have saved lives, but their purpose is service. Some save lives simply by their incredible commitment to duty and service. Some lead the way to independence for people whose disabilities were supposed to limit their lives. I recommend it highly, especially if you are a dog lover. I do believe you are going to want to reread this one sometime and will put it on your keeper shelf.

Book Review: “Half Truths” by Adam Hamilton
August 5, 2016 at 2:22 am | Posted in Books | Leave a commentTags: Book Review, Non-Fiction
Adam Hamilton in his new book, “Half Truths” published by Abingdon Press gives us God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say.
From the back cover: Many of us have simple phrases that we’ve heard over the years and may believe, say to others, and even count on, yet we’ve not carefully examined them. They often sound Christian–like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. These are half-truths.
Join bestselling author and pastor Adam Hamilton in this search for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés with the wisdom found in scripture. Along with Adam Hamilton, consider these common sayings:
- Everything happens for a reason.
- God helps those who help themselves.
- God won’t give you more than you can handle.
- God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
- Love the sinner, hate the sin.
Use of these phrases can lead people to avoid complex issues, be unintentionally hurtful, or even push people away from faith. By taking a clear-eyed look at these half-truths in light of The Bible, we can play a role in encouraging the greater truths found in Jesus Christ.
Have you ever heard, or even said, something believing it to be Biblical truth, then found out the Bible didn’t say that, or anything even close? Pastor Hamilton looks at five sayings that we might consider to be truths from The Bible but are not. Pastor Hamilton is asking us to question these sayings that we may have held deeply and possibly repeated often. Doing so may unnerve and irritate you but it will not make our faith crumble. The good news is by questioning these sayings it may actually grow our faith. I recommend this book for everyone. Have friends and family members that you want to give a gift then this is the book to give them. Everyone should have this book.
