I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Earl Henslin, on our radio show “Kingdom Highlights”, for his new book, “This Is Your Brain In Love” the sequel to his groundbreaking book, “This Is Your Brain On Joy” published by Thomas Nelson.

For those of you who do not know Dr. Henslin is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has been integrating brain imaging into the treatment of psychological, physical and spiritual problems in his counseling practice.  If you have a problem with your brain it will manifest itself in various forms, one of which is the love life.  As the book tells us the brain is the biggest sexual organ in the body.  Dr. Henslin tells us that the hormones created while we are in first love are equal to someone being on cocaine-without the disastrous side effects.  Then when that “high” wears off the couple feel that they have fallen out of love while this is not so.  The body simply cannot maintain that euphoria for a long time nor would we want it to.

Dr. Henslin goes into detailed methods to improve the five imbalances common in marriages.  With him we learn how to “focus the scattered lover”, “relax the over-focused lover”, “cheer the blue mood lover”, “calm the agitated lover”, and “soothe the anxious lover”.  If you feel you might fall into one of those categories then all is well there is a way these can be corrected and not always with drugs or surgery but with food changes and vitamins.

If you are married, have been married, have problems in your marriage, want to be married then this book if for you.  If you have friends that fall into any of those categories then this book is for them and you should give it as a gift, they will thank you for it forever.  It is time we learned how we operate and Dr. Henslin give us the right tools to help us.  This book is a keeper!

I had the privilege of interviewing Lauraine Snelling, on our radio show “Kingdom Highlights”, for her new book, “No Distance Too Far” Book Two in the Home To Blessing series published by Bethany House.

This book picks up practically where the first book in the series, “A Measure of Mercy” left off.  Astrid Bjorklund is now a doctor and has left Chicago and is now in Athens, Georgia at the Missionary School.  After she completes her training here this will be her launch point to be a medical missionary to Africa and be a much needed doctor for two years.

Again while the focus is on Astrid that does not mean that all the other cast members of Blessing are missing.  No indeed, they are all present and all have a part in the ongoing story.  Elizabeth becomes ill and Astrid must return home to not only care for her sister-in-law but the people of Blessing as well.

The people of Blessing are so easy to fall in love with and Ms. Snelling is such a wonderful writer that we easily get caught up in everyone’s life.  These are wonderful people and we wish that we had these kind of people for our neighbors.  There are wonderful themes that flow throughout the story,  Family, love of God, friendship, hard work and Ms. Snelling makes them all elegant.  To really understand what I am trying to say you would have to read the book.  I guarantee that you will enjoy it and be looking out for the third book in the series.

Book Review: Deadlock by Al and Joanna Lacy

Al and Joanna Lacy in their new book, “Deadlock” Book Two in the Return Of The Stranger series published by Multnomah returns us to the life of  Chief U.S. Marshal John Stranger and His wife, Breanna.

There are three Zarbo brothers and they are working their way to Colorado where they feel it is safe to continue their bank robberies and killings.  They made a mistake not knowing about the Marshal and they pay for it when John arrests one of them.  In an effort to prevent their brother from hanging the two remaining brothers kidnap Ginny and hold her hostage until John releases their brother.  There is also an event that happens to Breanna as well as other sub-plots that cause the reader to turn the pages as fast as possible.

This is the third series with John and Breanna; the first, “The Journeys Of The Stranger”, the second, “The Angel of Mercy” and now “The Return of The Stranger”.  Any book written by the Lacys is sure to be a winner but once you add in John and Breanna you have one of the best romances and explosive Western action.  One thing I have learned from reading this series is never touch John’s family-it gets him really angry.  As John prays and leans heavily on God for how to rescue his daughter he mounts a search and rescue mission that draws ever closer to a life and death decision.

This is a very exciting book and a wonderful addition to the series.  I recommend this book highly and am highly looking forward to the next book in the series.
