Loree Lough in her new book, “Currency of the Heart book coverCurrency of the Heart” Book One in the Secrets on Sterling Street series published by Whitaker House brings us into the lives of Shaina Sterling and Sloan Remington.

From the back cover:  Shaina Sterling hates the lie she’s living, but feels she has no choice. Soon after the shocking death of her husband, the young widow learns how deeply entrenched in debt his lavish lifestyle has left her. To protect the legacy of his name, as well as her own reputation and stately home at Sterling Hall, Shaina secretly sells off valuable possessions, piece by piece, hoping her wealthy Denver friends never learn the truth.

Successful rancher Sloan Remington knows far more about Shaina than she realizes, but because of a promise he made to her husband as he lay dying, he guards her secrets as carefully as he looks after her safety. But soon, a series of additional misfortunes make Shaina beholden to him—and threaten to expose a truth about himself that he’s long worked hard to keep hidden.

Will trials and tragedies bring these two together? Or will secrets—and the cost of exposing them—drive them apart forever?

Loree Lough has managed to put a lot of story into this story and all I can say is well done! Shaina is a very interesting person who doesn’t want 1882 Denver society to know how destitute her late husband left her. Sloan is not only a hero but a really nice person who I wish was real and a friend of mine. These two need each other in business if they plan to prosper. They really need each other and draw closed when the epidemic hits and Sloan is involved with transportation and Shaina goes back to being a nurse. Ms. Lough has managed to weave the romance between Shaina and Sloan in such a way that it just captivates you. She makes you care for all the characters, secondary or not, and their journey. This is also just plain fun and interesting as well.  Don’t start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep.

Jessica Dotta in her new book, “Price of Privilege book coverPrice of Privilege” Book Three in the Price of Privilege series published by Tyndale House Publishers brings us into the life of Julia Elliston.

From the Back Cover:  Where will she turn when the truth becomes more dangerous than the lie?

Having finally discovered the truth of her birthright, Julia Elliston is determined to outwit Chance Macy at his own game. Holding knowledge he’d kill to keep secret, however, is proving more difficult than she imagined.

Just when Julia thinks she’s managed to untangle herself from Macy’s clutches, the scandal of the century breaks loose. Drawing rooms all over London whisper what so far newspapers have not dared to print: Macy’s lost bride is none other than Lord Pierson’s daughter, Julia―and one of the most controversial cases of marital law ever seen comes before Victorian courts.

Though Julia knows Macy’s version of events is another masterful manipulation, public opinion is swaying in his favor. Caught in a web of deceit and lies, armed only with a fledgling faith, Julia must face her fiercest trial yet.

Jessica Dotta in “Price of Privilege” has given us history and details from society and expectations for Victorian London that are outstanding. There is a lot going on in this book, scheming manipulations, incredible deceit and really nasty people and Mr. Macy tops them all.  There are also good people as well and to see who is going to come out on top is quite an attention keeper. “Price of Privilege” is also a romance that can only be found in this kind of setting, marry for love, marry for money and/or prestige. There is a war going on between Julia and Mr. Macy that actually goes to trial. The conflict will be resolved but how is the question. Jessica Dotta knows how to weave a captivating story with wonderful characters that breathe.  I am sorry that this is the end of this series however I am looking forward to the next that the talented Ms. Dotta will write.

Betsy St. Amant in her new book, “Love Arrives in Pieces book coverLove Arrives in Pieces” Book Two in the Bayou Bend series published by Zondervan brings us into the life of Stella Varland.

From the back cover:  For so long, Stella was known for her beauty. Now, with her heart stripped bare, she must discover who she really is.

Former pageant queen Stella Varland doesn’t trust beauty anymore after her divorce. Her appearance betrayed her and led to brokenness, so instead of being beautiful, now she tries to make beautiful things, but she always falls short. So she keeps her passion for art to herself and focuses on her interior design work. But if she doesn’t get another job soon, she’ll be stuck living with her parents.

Contractor Chase Taylor is determined to live a life of no regrets after losing his fiancée. Now he lives life at full speed, striving to see how much he can accomplish. He knows if he slows down, he’ll fall apart. So he returns home to Bayou Bend to renovate the town’s old theater and is shocked to discover that the designer for the project is his old flame, Stella.

Forced to work together, Chase and Stella battle their chemistry and past as they struggle to compromise and work together on a vision for the theater. Their wills clash as they attempt to hide their brokenness—and their unresolved feelings for each other—until Chase discovers the hidden parts of Stella, while losing her trust in the process.

A near catastrophe, a fire, and a small-town gossip mill finally force Stella and Chase to realize that they have a choice—to hold on to the shards of their pasts, or surrender their fragmented pieces to the One who makes a beautiful masterpiece from their brokenness.

Betsy St. Amant has given us a wonderful contemporary romance. How do we deal with emotional devastation? Well, most of us don’t. That is exactly what Stella and Chase do:  they don’t. So Stella pours herself into interior design and Chase into his contracting and you know at some point they are going to meet and be forced to work together. Two emotionally wounded, broken individuals. They cannot fix themselves. The good news is that God is the Potterer. He can take broken vessels and not only put them back together but He can make them new. Ms. St. Amant has given us two characters Stella and Chase who fill up the pages against a swirl of activities. The book is all about them and their relationship and how deals with their individual brokenness. And then, of course, there is the romance. Ms. St. Amant has a way of making the characters lives very real so that we feel that we are living the moments with them. We feel that we know these people. We enjoy spending our time with them. We root for them to win. “Love Arrives in Pieces” is a marvelous study of how God can fix what is broken in our lives if and when we let Him.
