Lisa Carter in her new book, “Beneath a Navajo Moon book coverBeneath a Navajo Moon” published by Abingdon Press brings us into the life of Erin Dawson.

From the back cover:  What happens when love and danger collide deep in the heart of The Navajo Nation?

The search for a woman who disappeared in 1906 leads cultural anthropologist Erin Dawson to Cedar Canyon, where the iconic terrain of red rock walls and mesas keep Navajo traditions—and maybe criminal evidence—well hidden.

When Erin’s search leads her to cross paths with tribal policeman Adam Silverhorn, it’s hardly love at first sight. But everywhere she turns, Adam is already there.Fighting their feelings for each other, the two are suddenly thrust into a battle far more dangerous—a common quest to rout an insidious drug cartel that has spawned the recent rise in gang violence on the reservation. Adam’s position of authority gives Erin a rare glimpse into Navajo life few outsiders like her ever see—and into a crime ring that no one dares to imagine. As danger mounts, Adam and Erin begin to wonder if they will live to tell how they really feel.

For most of us we have no idea of what happens on an Indian Reservation.  Some of us think of casinos, some think of alcoholism, perhaps gangs. Adam is a tribal policeman, and we should see more of him, terrific character, who has to patrol the Navajo Nation which is quite an undertaking.  Erin is searching out a disappearance from 1906. They join forces to try to crack a drug ring. In the midst of all of this there is even a romance. Intrigue, mystery, large amounts of danger and a clash of cultures are just some of the ingredients in this wonderful adventure. I am looking forward to the next book from this highly talented author.

Kaye Dacus in her new book, “An Honest Heart book coverAn Honest Heart” Book Two in The Great Exhibition series published by B&H Books introduces us to Cadence “Caddy” Bainbridge.

From the back cover:  Courtship . . . cunning . . . candor. Who possesses an honest heart?

Set during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Exhibition of 1851, An Honest Heart is a “sitting-room romance” with the feel of a Regency-era novel but the fashions and technological advances of the mid-Victorian age.

Featuring dual romance stories, the main plot involves seamstress Caddy Bainbridge and the choice she must make between two men: one from the aristocracy, the other from the working class. Award-nominated author Kaye Dacus pinpoints the theme of honesty—both men in this love triangle have deep secrets to hide, and Caddy’s choice will be based on which of them can be honest with her.

Kaye Dacus really knows how to write a wonderful story.  Once again Ms. Dacus has filled the pages of “An Honest Heart” with high drama, wonderful romance and fascinating characters.  Two worlds:  the Upper Class and The Middle Class; Two suitors:  One secretive, one sinister, an ill mother and a successful dressmaker shop these are just some of the ingredients in this fascinating adventure.  And, of course, there are the moments that you laugh out loud.  “An Honest Heart” is a lot of fun and I recommend this book highly.  I am greatly looking forward to Ms. Dacus’ next book.

Book Review: “Damascus Countdown” by Joel C. Rosenberg

Joel C. Rosenberg in his book “Damascus Countdown book coverDamascus Countdown” Book Three in The Twelfth Imam series published by Tyndale House Publishers brings us to The Middle East in the possible future.

From the inside jacket flap:  This time, all eyes are not just on Iran, but on Syria as well.

Israel successfully launches a first strike on Iran, taking out all of their nuclear sites and six of their nuclear warheads.  American President William Jackson threatens to support a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning the Jewish State for unprovoked and unwarranted acts of aggression.  And The Twelfth Imam prepares to order a genocidal retaliation.

Meanwhile, CIA operative David Shirazi has infiltrated the Iranian regime and intercepted top secret intelligence indicating that two Iranian nuclear warheads survived the attack and have been moved to a secure and undisclosed location. In danger not only from the ongoing war between Israel and Iran but also from the increasingly hostile governments in multiple countries, Shirazi and his team are in a race against time to find the remaining nuclear warheads before the most cataclysmic event in the history of The Middle East comes to pass.

I think it is entirely possible that Joel Rosenberg is a spy.  Not your typical spy I suppose but since I have never met one and have no reference point based on what I read all I can say is he must be some kind of spy.  Mr. Rosenberg knows a lot about how governments work.  He has a fascinating amount of information about what is going on in the Muslim world and he has written a fast-paced thriller to prove it.

In “Damascus Countdown” Joel C. Rosenberg weaves together headlines from our current news with Biblical prophecy.  This book is entertaining and will have you flipping pages as fast as you can read but, be prepared; it is also thought-provoking and will have you looking up from the page going, “wow”.   I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down.  Mr. Rosenberg is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as he tightens the suspense.
