Kellie Coates Gilbert in her new book, “A Reason To Stay book coverA Reason To Stay” Book Three in the Texas Gold series published by Revell brings us into the life of Faith Marin.

From the back cover:   Sometimes the thing that keeps us from making the wrong choice is the one thing we can’t control

As an investigative reporter and the host of her own TV talk show, Faith Marin works to expose the truth for her viewers. But in her personal life, she’s anchored her world with firm boundaries in order to hide a family history she’d like to forget. By contrast, her husband Geary’s life is an open book. An easygoing pro bass fisherman, Geary is the ultimate family man–and his overbearing relatives don’t know the meaning of boundaries.

Faith and Geary haven’t been married long when their differences start to derail their tender relationship. Surely love shouldn’t be this hard. While Faith considers whether divorce is the only answer to their issues, tragedy strikes. With her life in the balance, she finds that the one she has been shutting out may be the very one she cannot bear to lose.

Kellie Coates Gilbert takes you on an emotional roller coaster as she weaves together unexpected trial, self-discovery, and forgiveness in this profoundly honest portrait of the tensions that can break a marriage–and the ultimate healing power of love.

It is amazing to me who we choose for our marriage partner. From the outside it looks as if Faith really married the wrong man. It seems as if Geary isn’t anything like her. When you read it you decide if this is true or not. At any rate it really comes down to the wire whether Faith should divorce Geary or not. It would seem as if this is the most prudent thing to do. However events happen that necessitate stalling the divorce proceedings. What will the final outcome be? There is the fascinating relationship between Faith and Geary that moves the story along at a brisk clip. Ms. Gilbert is highly talented and keeps the story moving at a very high level of quality. Ms. Gilbert makes you care for Faith and Geary and their unique journey.  This is also just plain fun and exciting as well.  Don’t start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep.

Bible Commentary: “One Who Practices Witchcraft”

“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you” (Deuteronomy 18:9-14 NKJV).

God just doesn’t like witchcraft, He says it is an abomination to Him and rightly so because witchcraft tries to do what God does without Him. The Dictionary defines witchcraft as, “The practices or art of witches; sorcery; enchantments. Sorcery is defined as, “the belief in magical spells that harness occult forces or evil spirits to produce unnatural effects in the world” or “Use of supernatural power over others through the assistance of spirits; witchcraft”. We should not be harnessing occult forces or evil spirits to produce unnatural effects we need to dwell in God’s supernatural provision and power and produce His supernatural miracles in the world.

Manasseh

“Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. But he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised up altars for the Baals, and made wooden images; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem shall My name be forever.” And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger” (2 Chronicles 33:1-6 NKJV).
“Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hephzibah. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put My name.” And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger” (2 Kings 21:1-6 NKJV).
“But they paid no attention, and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel” (2 Kings 21:9 NKJV).

“So Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel” (2 Chronicles 33:9 NKJV).

Child of God – God told the Israelites not to be involved with witchcraft so that they would be blameless. Manasseh did not listen and provoked the Lord to anger. What happened to Manasseh? “Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him off to Babylon” (2 Chronicles 33:11 NKJV). God has given us free will and we can be obedient to His word or not as we choose however, as it is with our natural parents, disobedience brings consequences.  Witchcraft is a sin and should be shunned. Reading the horoscopes, having your palm read, celebrating Halloween, calling the fortune-teller number is witchcraft and God will not overlook this. Let us all repent before our Creator and ask for His mercy on our nations.

Our prayer:
Lord, forgive us for the multiple times that we have offended you practicing this sin of witchcraft, even thinking that it was harmless and just a game. You take this seriously. Please help me to keep myself clean and away from every evil practice. Help me to be wise and to be aware of the deceitfulness that is in the world today. Amen.

If you want to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior pray: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that out of love for me you willingly sacrificed your life so that I may live. I repent of all my sins and open my heart to you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer for the first time or if you have any questions please contact us. We would love to hear from you.

Book Review: “Vendetta” by Lisa Harris

Lisa Harris in her new book “vendetta book coverVendetta” Book One in The Nikki Boyd Files series published by Revell Books introduces us to Nikki Boyd.

From the back cover:  The first 48 hours are the most crucial…

No one needs to push Nikki Boyd to excel on the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force. The case of her own missing sister, still unsolved after ten years, is the driving force in her work. When a Polaroid photo of a missing girl shows up at a crime scene, Nikki quickly recognizes similarities to the past. The closer she gets to the abductor, the more she feels this case has become personal, and she is not the hunter . . . but the hunted.

With this explosive first book in The Nikki Boyd Files, award-winning author Lisa Harris takes you on a fast-paced pursuit of justice that will have you holding your breath until the heart-stopping finish.

This is the first book in The Nikki Boyd Files series and I think Ms. Harris has given us an incredible character in Nikki Boyd. She is a driven member of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force because she has been unable to solve what happened to her own sister. Plus I have never been a part of the Tennessee Police force up until now. It is an interesting experience. “Vendetta” reads somewhat similar, to me at least, to the old movie serials. Nikki gets a clue, gets into trouble, out of trouble, another clue, in trouble, out of trouble. All the while the clock is ticking on the missing girl. With “Vendetta” Ms. Harris has given us a thriller that becomes more and more exciting and nerve-wracking until you flip the last page and let out a contented sigh of relief.  This is a fun read, it is a fast read, however I do not recommend starting this book late at night because, as this is high-octane suspense it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down.  Ms. Harris is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as she tightens the suspense. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
