Wendy Corsi Staub in her new book, “Blue Moon” Book Two in the Mundy’s Landing series published by William Morrow gives us another adventure at Mundy’s Landing.
From the back cover: New York Times bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub returns to Mundy’s Landing—a small town where bygone bloodshed has become big business.
Hair neatly braided, hands serenely clasped, eyes closed, the young woman appeared to be sound asleep. But the peaceful tableau was a madman’s handiwork. Beneath the covers, her white nightgown was spattered with blood. At daybreak, a horrified family would discover her corpse tucked into their guest room. The cunning killer would strike again . . . and again . . . before vanishing into the mists of time.
A century ago, the Sleeping Beauty Murders terrified picturesque Mundy’s Landing. The victims, like the killer, were never identified. Now, on the hundredth anniversary, the Historical Society’s annual “Mundypalooza” offers a hefty reward for solving the notorious case.
Annabelle Bingham, living in one of the three Murder Houses, can’t escape the feeling that her family is being watched—and not just by news crews and amateur sleuths. She’s right. Having unearthed the startling truth behind the horrific crimes, a copycat killer is about to reenact them—beneath the mansard roof of Annabelle’s dream home . . .
I recommend this novel to those who enjoy getting caught up in a rather complex plot with lots of character development and a good amount of suspense. The plot is a little complex. There had been three murders one hundred years ago in Mundy’s Landing. The victims had remained unidentified and the killer never captured. This novel centers around a couple buying one of the houses where one of the murdered young women was found. What they don’t know is that someone is going to replicate the murders. On top of everything this is quite an engrossing thriller that will have you muttering “oh, no” as you are reading as fast as you can to get to the next page. Don’t start this book late at night as it will cost you sleep as you try to finish it before you go to bed. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Book Review: “The Last Witness” by Denzil Meyrick
July 31, 2016 at 1:20 am | Posted in Books | Leave a commentTags: Book Review, Fiction, Thriller
Denzil Meyrick in his new book, “The Last Witness” Book Two in A Detective Daley Thriller published by Pegasus Books LLC gives us another adventure with Detective Chief Inspector Jim Daley.
From the back cover: James Machie was a man with a genius for violence, his criminal empire spreading beyond Glasgow into the UK and mainland Europe. Fortunately, James Machie is dead, assassinated in the back of a prison ambulance following his trial and conviction.
But now, five years later, he is apparently back from the grave, set on avenging himself on those who brought him down. Top of his list is his previous associate, Frank MacDougall, who unbeknownst to D.C.I. Jim Daley, is living under protection on his lochside patch, the small Scottish town of Kinloch. Daley knows that, having been the key to Machie’s conviction, his old friend and colleague D.S. Scott is almost as big a target.
And nothing, not even death, has ever stood in James Machie’s way .
Welcome to another adventure with Detective Chief Inspector Jim Daley. This time it looks as if he is up against a criminal genius who seems to be avenging himself on those from his trial. There is only one problem he has been dead for five years. I think this is one of the most fascinating and clever mystery thrillers ever! And, of course, D.C.I. Jim Daley is just an exceptional character that we get involved with as he tries to bring his detective skill against a criminal genius. I recommend that you start early, turn off the phone, hit the bathroom and make a big bowl of popcorn. From experience once you get started you are not going to want to be interrupted. Mr. Meyrick has set it up so that you are captured from the first page and he doesn’t let go until the last. I am already looking forward to more from this talented author.
